Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We hope that you will find the answer to your questions here, but if not then please get in touch and we'll do our very best to help you.

Installation

How does installation get arranged?
We have negotiated a nationwide installation contract to enable units purchased from our website to be fitted wherever you are in mainland UK. We instruct our installer when we ship the goods to you and they will then call you to arrange a convenient date and location for installation (e.g. either your home or office). Installation should then occur at the agreed time and date, within a week of the booking being made.

All TV screens are measured diagonally i.e. from bottom left corner to top right corner. All screen sizes given are approximate.

What are the different types of In-Car DVD?
There are two basic types of in car DVD. The first is ‘a portable system’ and the second a ‘permanent installation’.

Portable systems:
A portable system is the fastest and most popular method for getting an in car DVD system. Portable system means exactly that. You simply plug the system into your cars cigarette lighter and it works this means you can swap it between cars quickly and easily, take it on holiday and use at home too.

Permanent Installation:
Some systems are made for permanent installation. Permanent installation can be hooked up to the vehicles existing audio system and screen options are much wider. Screens can be permanently fixed into headrests or sun visors. Professional fitment is required.

The screen is quite small is it ok to watch?
A typical in car DVD, system will utilise a 5.6 inch colour LCD TFT screen, it is small but the picture is pin sharp and easily watchable.

Are In-Car DVD systems legal to use in the car?
In car DVD, for passenger use is completely legal to sell and use in the UK.

In-Car DAB Digital Radio

Can I get DAB digital radio anywhere in the UK?
Currently about 85% of the UK population is covered. For more information on national and commercial digital radio coverage click here and enter your Postcode.

For more information on BBC national digital radio coverage go to www.bbc.co.uk/digitalradio

Do I have to pay a subscription to receive DAB digital radio?
No. DAB digital radio is free-to-air. There is no subscription, unlike satellite radio.

Are digital radios easy to use?
Yes, tuning is by station name rather than frequency, so you no longer have to remember the frequency of your favourite station names. There are also many new stations, as well as the existing ones, available on DAB digital radio that are not available on other frequencies.

I have a digital display on my existing radio. Isn't this a DAB digital radio?
A digital display does not mean that a radio is a DAB digital radio. To receive DAB digital radio stations and have all the other benefits of DAB digital radio (ease of use, extra functions, sound quality), your radio must be a true DAB digital radio, and should therefore have the DAB digital radio logo.

In-Car Satellite Navigation Systems

What are my subscription options?

What does an installed Smartnav look like in my car?
The visible parts of Smartnav are a discrete backlit button, a microphone and speaker. These will be fitted to your vehicle in locations agreed between yourself and the installation engineer. The main unit and wiring will be completely hidden from view and will not interfere with or affect your driving experience.

Is Smartnav transferable from vehicle to vehicle if I sell my car and will it leave any damage to my car?
Smartnav is transferable, but will need to be removed and refitted by an approved engineer. The removal of the unit should not leave any damage to your vehicle.

How often are the maps updated in Smartnav?
The maps used in Smartnav are updated at least every 3 months so the driver is provided with the latest mapping and given accurate routing. Mapping on other satellite navigation systems is stored on CD and DVD and can be a year out of date before the user even starts to use it.

Can Smartnav be fitted into any car?
Smartnav has been designed so that it can be installed in any car. Trained engineers will be able to advise on the best positioning of the unit, button, speakers and microphone so that it does not interfere with existing vehicle equipment.

What are the benefits of having Touch Screen?
Touch Screen is ideal if you do lots of driving in inner cities where manoeuvres are complex. It provides instant visual confirmation of the manoeuvre and displays the road names together with a constantly updated arrival time.

Does Smartnav work in Europe?
No, however the Smartnav product has been designed to allow for European mapping to be added in the future without any additional upgrade or hardware changes.
